Oct. 11—PRICEVILLE — The Priceville Bulldogs learned Friday night that they still have work to do.
Coming into the game, the Bulldogs were ranked in the top 10 for the first time since 2022 and had a chance to make a statement, hosting Class 5A, No. 4 Fairview. Instead, the Aggies prevailed 28-9.
"I'm disappointed in the way we played," said Priceville head coach Seth Parker. "A lot of it has to do with (Fairview) because they're one of the best teams in north Alabama, but I just didn't feel like we played our best brand of football tonight."
Priceville had a good start, forcing the Aggies into a three-and-out on their opening drive. But it was all downhill from there for a Priceville defense that had come into the game allowing an average of seven points.
Fairview finished with 363 yards of offense and 20 first downs. The Aggies were also 5-for-9 on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth down.
"Being unable to get off the field was something that burdened us last year, and so far this year I thought we had gotten over that hump," Parker said. "Obviously, it reared its ugly head tonight."
Fairview opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run from Jake Harper and a 10-yard touchdown pass from Harper to Jace Stevens to make it 14-0.
Priceville cut the lead to 14-3 after halftime with a 36-yard field goal from Landon Byer and to 14-9 early in the third quarter off a 5-yard pass from Sheldon Graham to Hudson Eubanks.
Fairview responded with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Kolt Redding to Stevens and a 1-yard run by Harper to seal the win.
Graham was 11-for-15 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown to lead Priceville. He was also the leading rusher with six carries for 44 yards
The loss drops Priceville to 5-2, but the Bulldogs still have a chance to secure a home playoff game with region games remaining against Lawrence County and Russellville in the next two weeks.
"There's still a lot in front of us though with a chance to host a playoff game, so we're going to get back to the drawing board and get ready to bounce back," Parker said.
